Forty-five miles from Manhattan, accessible by express train service (four train stations) and major highways, the flavor of the city differs greatly within its twenty-six square miles. The 80,000 inhabitants enjoy a wide variety of recreational and cultural attractions.

 

The historic area known as Sono frequently hosts art shows, festivals and boat shows while the famed Maritime Center offers a museum and educational opportunities. Featuring twenty-two miles of Connecticut coastline, Norwalk creates many opportunities for water enthusiasts.  Rowayton is a quiet seaside village within the city. The Silvermine area is a picturesque area of Norwalk with the Silvermine River winding through it. Both residential and urban, loaded with parks, tennis courts, beaches, marinas and golf courses, Norwalk has many faces.

 

The school system has twelve elementary schools, four Middle and two High Schools. One of the schools hosts the Center for Japanese Study Abroad. The Recreation Division provides programs for both seniors and youngsters alike. The Norwalk Symphony, Youth Symphony and Community Chorus, swimming, arts and crafts and team athletic are just some of the programs the Recreation Department offers.
